Several types of hard alloy cutting tools are commonly used in mechanical processing. These include:

1.Cemented Carbides:

Tungsten Carbide (WC): Suitable for cutting non-ferrous metals, cast iron, and non-metallic materials like wood and plastics.

Titanium Carbide (TiC): Used for cutting hard materials like steel, cast iron, and high-temperature alloys.

2.Cermets:

Made of ceramic materials (like titanium carbide) and metals (like nickel or cobalt), cermets are ideal for high-speed finishing and cutting of steels and cast irons.

3.Ceramics:

Silicon Nitride (Si₃N₄): Effective for machining cast iron and hard steels.

Aluminum Oxide (Al₂O₃): Used for high-speed machining of hard steels and cast irons.

4.Cubic Boron Nitride (CBN):

Suitable for cutting hardened steels, cast irons, and superalloys. It's particularly used for finishing and hard turning applications.

5.Polycrystalline Diamond (PCD):

Ideal for machining non-ferrous metals, non-metallic materials, and composites. It's not suitable for cutting ferrous metals due to chemical reactivity.
